CopyCat Bloggers Suck, right?

Copycats suck. Right? Well, the trend in so many of the blogs like this one is to read other blogs that make money and do what they do. Well, that isn’t going to work for you if you plan to copy this one.
This blog is about what I taught myself over the years of blogging about affiliates, making money and marketing techniques. Some of them aren’t that great, but I did learn from my mistakes and this blog is more of an adventure through the blogshpere than anything else.
If you are serious about blogging, there are actually a bunch of steps you should follow. I do not know most of them, but the ones that I do know, helped me out a great deal. Online you will find some people that will tell you straight out how they made money and you will also find the ones that do not want everyone to know how they made their money.
Showing your readers some resultsin your testing will gain you more readers, but not really more money, in the short term anyway. People want to see results. That is why a 30 minute information commercial is all about the presentation. You hear the products name every 10 seconds, but you also get to see it take care of a red wine stain, right?
Remember that blogging is still WORK, if you are serious. If you are not that serious about making a living online, then you shouldn’t consider it WORK. You have to remember that you will NOT be able to walk into your regular job and expect the day to breeze by because you read how to do your job, right?
Keep it real and don’t give up. Most blogs make money, the ones that don’t gave up before they are even ONE year old.
What type of blogger are you?

Many, many blogs pop up every single week. Many communities pop up and give you many more reasons to check out the newest and best blogs on the internet. For a blogging beginner, I would just like to point out 5 blogs that I read on a weekly basis and why I read them.
In no particular order of course:
- Bloggingexperiment.com- Recently purchased by a entrepreneur that is working to make $10K + per month there, the blog is full of information that a beginner should retain.
- Blogaboutyourblog.com - Considered a friend, Matt over at BAYB has helped me with some questions and the posts are always 110% readable to the end. Give his blog a look sometime.
- Shoemoney.com - We all know this blog and I get the email updates here. Rarely HAVE to visit the blog, but comment occasionally. Excellent posts that make perfect logical sense…to most people :) Usually the ones that want to make money online.
- JohnCow.com - I read this blog for the same reason that I #1, to get different ideas about making some money online. I like the way John’s posts go and the tone of them. Once you get established it’s a good read.
Some bloggers will tell you they don’t read other blogs or that it doesn’t pay to “copy” what other blogs are doing. Well I think that goes without saying and if you want to get some other perspectives on what other bloggers say about products or services, why not check them out?
What can it hurt?

I always liked Wordpress.org blogs right from the get-go! They are 110% customizable and what a better way to make your own name online! One thing you get with WP blogs are nice plugins that energetic developers create just we can have a nicely functional blog.
Today I wanted to list a couple of plugins that I start out with EVERY blog that I create. I will post the name of the plugin, a short description and where you can get it. All of them are freeso there isn’t any issue with bloggers on a low budget to worry about.
Here goes:
- Akismet - get that crap spam out of your comment moderation, works like a charm.
- All in One SEO Pack - no blog should be without this SEO pack, gives you much control of your keywords, etc right from the admin area.
- Comment Email Responder - what good are comments if you can’t reply to them easily? This allows the admin to reply to any comment right away and continue discussions.
- Show Top Commentators - reward your commenters with a link in the sidebar. Keeps people coming back to comment.
So, there you have it, 4 plugins that I put on any blog that I start. There are plenty more plugins to use, but these will get you started. Each blog (and template) uses different plugins, so you might want to decide what type of template you are going to have before you go crazy filling your hosting space with plugins.
What plugins do you use when starting a blog?

Some people are aware of Projectwonderful.com as a cheap way to get your favorite 125×125 ad on some websites. But I don’t think that some people realize how cheap it actually is to promote affiliate productsand services with Projectwonderful.com.
What do I mean? Well, PW allows you to create as many ads as you want and since you are able to determine where the ad links to, it’s an easy way to through your affiliate link in the mix.
It can be a little harder to find a website that fits an affiliate you want to promote, but if you look hard enough you can find some. Bidding on keywords might be an easy way to target, but trying it this way could also get you some quick cash for pennies a day.
I recently did an experiment on a website that pays people to visit other sites and sign up with their information. Otherwise known as, GPT (get paid to) websites. I thought if I put a banner for my best convertingaffiliate network (Neverblueads.com) maybe I could get some referrals. And since NeverBlueAds.com pays 2% for the life of the referral, I figured it might be a good way to make extra money without doing anything.
So, I found this website and to place my banner on the homepage (very important) was .50 per day. A little steep if you want to make any money, but the website averaged about 3-4K visits per day over the last 30 days. This might be a good converter.
I bought the space for ONE day and had 15 uniqueclickthroughs. I didn’t think this was bad at all. Then I went to my Neverblueads.com account page to see if any of these clicks had signed up. They sure did, I have 6 referrals right now. The bad thing is that anyone can sign up and right now only 2 of them are making money.
At a total cost of .67 to me, I think it was a pretty cheap way to gain affiliate referrals. What do you think?

Writing a post about a great resource to webmasters and bloggers alike is pretty simple. Give a link, tell a couple things about the resource and BAM, you’re done.
Today I would like to mention the forums over at DigitalPoint.com. The forums are very frequently posted at by the top webmasters in the business. There are so many categories to look through, it really is an “all-in-one” resource for bloggers and webmasters alike.
I travel to forums.digitalpoint.com about 2 times per week and lately it was to find design help for a logo on this blog. I have paid about $15 in total and have a couple of samples to try out in the coming days over the weekend.
What do you do when you are at the DigitalPoint Forums?
