Entrecard.com Traffic Worth It? Exposure is for Sure!

How do you feel about the traffic that you get from entrecard.com?  Do you know how many of those subscribe to your RSS, leave a comment or even stay longer than 2 minutes?

In my experiences with entrecard.com (2 blogs), I haven’t really noticed anymore activity than normal.  What I have noticed is that my blogs name is getting noticed.  Picture surfing through entrecards.  How many of those sites do you stop and read?  Let’s just say for argument, it’s 3 out of 10 that catch your eye.  Do you think that is happening when you blog is one of the 10 people surf to?

If not, think about adding catchy titles to your blog posts, maybe a small graphic in the sidebar that pulls them towards your most popular posts.  You might even set your entrecard to bring the readers to a post regarding your entrecard.

Marketing your blog is hard enough to begin with, but if you can see where your readers are coming from, you should try and lure them deep into your blog if you can.  Everything is worth a try one time.  It’s all about trial and error.

Get a Monthly Check from Text-Link-Ads.com

If you haven’t already taken a look at Text-link-ads.com, I think you should.  Text-link-ads.com allows domain owners to sell links on their websites.  Advertisers can find your site by keyword and purchase links on your pages for an amount determined by traffic and popularity of your site.

TLA also has a nice referral program.  They will pay YOU $25 for every person that signs up through your referral link.  This program has got to be one of the highest paying referral programs that I have found online.

Text-link-ads.com

When you sign up a domain for the service you are also asked if you’d like to participate in a new program.  This program allows advertisers to purchase links based on words throughout your website.  For bloggers, this is a nice option if you post often and use keywords throughout your posts.  The drawback is that you aren’t allowed to sell links the normal way.

How do you get a payment every month?

I have ONE blog that is in this new program and I get paid every single month (on the 1st).  I have sold 8-9 keywords to various advertisers and I am making a decent amount each month.  I sell about 2 per month right now and the price is determined by TLA.  The more popular the keyword, the more money you will be making!

Give it a try, it’s free to sign up, like usual, and you should be able to start selling links before you go to bed tonight.

Wordpress Tips and Tricks

Many blogs are popping up and to get yours cranking away you might want to take a look at this list of tips and tricks that I have come across in my short 8 month blogging career.

  1. Use Wordpress.org - This one is easy and if you have a blog, odds are you are already hooked up with it.
  2. Watch the plugins - Many are cool, there are only a few that actually will make your blog function better.  Plugins that I install on every blog (there are more, but these are the typical minimum) include: CommentLuv, WPmentor or Adsense Deluxe, Post Ratings, Popularity, and aLinks.
  3. Add pictures to your posts - WP version 2.5.1 is out and it included a fix to the Blog Tips and Tricksimage gallery and picture software part of the install.  Now you can easily add pictures, with correct alt info, within seconds.  Adding pictures helps the reader relate and since the human form is so simple, it readers feel warm and cozy, too.
  4. Post often, but post quality - Make sure that you keep your blog updated and with quality posts within your niche, of course.  You don’t have to post every single day, but keep your email subscribers happy and make sure you give them a reason to come back to your blog for more.
  5. Setup your FeedBurner Email subscription link - Make sure that your readers can see the RSS buttons and have an option to sign up for email updates.  Subscribers are a big deal and having a nice following isn’t a bad thing, ever.
  6. Get Twitter - sign up for Twitter and allow your readers to follow you.  That way you can update them with new posts and other valuable information regarding your blog.

That’s it for now.  These tips are very basic and should be done with your blog within one week of purchasing your domain.  After that you will be so busy with SEO and getting ranked you won’t have time to implement these simple tips.

Good luck!!

Watch Your Alexa Rank

Bloggers like to see numbers.  The higher some numbers are, the better things are.  Things like monetization, pagerank or subscribers is a good example of a number you want high.  Sometimes the lower the number the better.  Alexa Rank is just like that and you can see it in real time at www.alexa.com.

At alexa.com you can compare your website traffic to that of other websites and see where you stand in your niche.  It’s a good motivator to keep the traffic coming your way.  Alexa measures your reach (per million), Alexa Rank and page views (per million).

When you first go to the site you see a graph right on the front page.  When you type in your websites, the graph will show your numbers.  You even have an  option to post that graph on your website, where it will update automatically.  Since fellow bloggers and readers like numbers and stats, it would be a pretty cool feature to stuff in your footer space.

What is your alexa rank and what does it tell you?

Use Members Only Area to Gain Subscribers

If you are just like me, or everyone else with a blog, you want to get as many subscribers as you can.  Some bloggers even think that the number of subscribers is the “new pagerank”.  Others think that it can gauge the value of your blog.

With that said, I wanted to point out a way that I use on my other blogs to gain some subscribers.  Create a Members Only area and offer the passwords to that area to your email subscribers only.

Members Only Area

Now, the downside to this is that you have to come up with a report or some kind of content that people will be willing to go the extra mile to subscribe.

How do you do this?  Well, the way that I did this was to simply create a page called “Members Area“.  One this page you can put links to password protected posts and pages.  On my other blog, I wrote a quick report on how I made $400 with ONE post.  I put that link on my Members Area page and when you click it, you have to enter the password before you can see the content.

With that all setup I put a post up on my blog regarding ways you can get the password to the information.  I decided to place the password in my feed using a plugin called feed footer.  This plugin allows you to have additional information at the end of each post in your feed.
